Bonaire Kiteboarding
Blessed with consistent wind, it’s no wonder Bonaire has become one of the Caribbean’s best locations for this growing sport. On Bonaire’s southwest coast, you’ll find an expansive area of flat water that’s perfect for kiting.

It’s an ideal launch and landing site on one of the island’s longest stretches of beach. Winds blow consistently offshore across Bonaire’s undeveloped lowland with shallow, ultra-flat waters near shore and deeper waters with gentle swell further out.
The surfing area stretches for miles with plenty of space for everyone. Though the beach shelves away quickly, it’s sandy in the shallows. This makes it a great spot for beginners, freestyle riders and foilers thanks to the lack of shallow reefs or sandbars.
You’ll find two kiteboarding schools at Atlantis. We partner with Bonaire Kiteschool, offering kitesurfing and wingfoiling instruction, rentals, and boat assistance.
Wind Conditions
The wind blows 15-22 + knots over 300 days a year. The best wind season is January through July. You can expect side-offshore wind the entire day at Atlantis, Bonaire’s designated kite beach.
Beginners will find Bonaire an excellent place to learn the sport. It’s also ideal for more advanced freestyle, foiling and serious air time.
The Setup
Located less than 15 minutes by car south of the airport, Atlantis Beach feels like a remote surf camp, yet is easily accessible on Bonaire’s main road.
There are two kite school headquarters here. Every day the schools set up shade tents, lounge areas and gear on this undeveloped stretch of the island.

Kiteboarding Instruction
The kiteboarding schools at Atlantis are focused on your learning and safety.
- An instructor is with you all the time, beginning on the beach and in waist deep water.
- As you progress, your instructor is right beside you in a boat; he can also bring you back to the beach if needed.
- Rescue boats are always ready should you need assistance.
The off-shore winds insure you won’t hit any land or structures – just open water to splash into.
