Lac Bay
The Perfect
Windsurfing Playground
Bordered by emerald mangroves and brilliant beaches, Bonaire’s Lac Bay and its colorful environs are a protected ecosystem. The nature, beauty and tranquility here is stunning. The windsurfing? Incredible!
The Right Spot to Learn and Improve
Beginners can learn to windsurf and try winging in knee to waist deep water, making recovery from falls easy and restarting less tiresome. Those refining skills and techniques—such as jibes, water starts and freestyle moves—benefit from the flat, shallow waters and steady winds.
Further out, blue-green swells roll through a portion of the bay where more advanced windsurfers can enjoy bump and jump conditions. There’s also another area of the bay with easy beach entry leading to deeper water that is ideal for foiling and freestyle.
Year Round Wind on Bonaire
Bonaire is known for some of the strongest, steadiest trade winds in the Caribbean. Surfers will find the strongest winds from May into August (along with great low season deals). Lowest winds are generally found October to December (ideal for beginners).
Wind patterns can be affected by weather systems in other parts of the Caribbean, but there’s rarely a day on Bonaire without wind and sunshine.
More Than Windsurfing
Lac Bay has something for any visitor seeking nature, adventure or relaxation. You can kayak hidden trails and passages of the mangrove reserve. Enjoy bayside dining with views of non-stop surf action. Rent SUPs for cruising on low wind days. And explore extraordinary snorkeling along the barrier reef and in the mangroves.
